I think I’ve found something about global warming that everyone can agree is bad. The warming climate is hastening the death of white ash trees from an Asian beetle and softening the wood from the trees according to the NY Times. Why is this bad? White ash is the primary material used in wood baseball bats and has been for the past century. It’s strong, light, and flexible.

Maple has been used by some players, including Barry Bonds, and is more popular with younger players but white ash is still used by the majority of major leaguers.

And if there’s something that can unite people all across America, it’s baseball. Forgot Live Earth and Al Gore. Get Derek Jeter and Albert Pujols together to explain the perils of global warming to bat production. Now, that will get action.

Let’s unite America like never before. Fight global warming for your favorite ball player!
