How To: Buy A Smartphone

Don’t overthink this purchase or let gadget lust get the better of you. Any of the phones currently out there will do wireless e-mail and Outlook synchronization. It’s mostly a matter of form and whether you need a full QWERTY keyboard or a touch screen. There’s no need to learn what GSM stands for and who has it. Just pick your phone and love it. Oh, and know that a better phone will come out next month, it’s just the way it works.

If you’re a user of Monster.com, you might want to check your computer for malware. Security Fix’s Brian Krebs is reporting that a group has stolen the identities of about 40,000 Monster users by planting trojan horses in advertisements on the site. Tax Foundation Responds to Maryland Report

However, because the Tax Foundation is a pro-business lobbying group they cannot possibly lobby for combined reporting, and that’s where they get stuck. The Tax Foundation likes to call corporate income taxes 20th century taxes in a 21st century economy and they are partially right. Separate company filing methods used by many states are 20th century tax systems that need to be modernized. Combined reporting is a way to modernize those systems to the business situation in the 21st century. Gone are the days when subsidiaries were only set up to separate a business by product or geography. Subsidiaries are set up for all sorts of reasons, including legal evasion of state taxes. By keeping the walled gardens states are simply ignoring the fact that business has changed in the last half century. And without changes the states will simply lose their ability to tax large companies on the money that they earn in the state.

Nardelli Gets a New Job

Last time we saw Bob Nardelli the ex-G.E. star was getting pushed out of Home Depot for getting the board to pay him outrageous sums of money even as the stock fell. He had other issues, like refusing to address shareholders at annual meetings, but his pay was wayyyyy over the top and his refusal to take even a modest paycut to save face really summed up Nardelli’s entire tenure at Home Depot. (Not to worry, he did get a $210 million severance package)

Use Haute Secure to Surf Securely

Given that, I still definitely encourage users to install the plugin if they use IE 7 to surf. I will be installing the plugin for Firefox once it goes live as well. It’s one more way to attempt to secure your computer.

Is Iraq Turning a Corner?

The NY Times published an editorial on Iraq on Sunday from two Senior Fellows at the Brookings Institution. It might not shock a lot of people that the Times published an editorial on Iraq, much less from two people at the lefty Brookings Institution. What makes the editorial notable was what was said.
I was [...]
