The tech world is abuzz as Steve Jobs takes the stage this morning and announces to the world… well, we’re not sure but the new high-speed iPhone is sure to be on the list. It seems like a great opportunity for me to pick up the first generation phone cheaply, which will receive the update I need, Microsoft Exchange compatibility. Since I am a T-Mobile customer, the high speed internet does me little good since T-Mobile uses a different frequency than does AT&T, Apple’s preferred partner in the States.

I’m sure ExurbanKevin has slathered himself in the ritual Aqua paint for the event. There will be a ton of details everywhere about what happens in Cupertino today. It amazes me that a product launch has become a huge media spectacle. Forgot the media’s liberal bias. How about its Mac bias?

I am genuflecting towards the Moscone Center as I type this. :)

Seriously, though, all I use my iPod for these days is podcasts and audiobooks for my drive to and from work, for which my 2GB Nano more than suffices. I can’t watch movies at work, and I have no desire to further isolate myself from my family by watching them at home. The iPhone apps that are being announced ain’t liftin’ my skirts, and all an iPhone would do for me, then, is better mobile web-browsing and combines my Nano and Blackberry into one device.

    Yay.

Now, a new MacBook Pro, on the other hand… :)

That’s really what I want. My Dash (now my Blackberry Pearl) allowed me to go from three devices to two. The iPhone allows me to get to one device and getting it jailbroken will allow me to pay T-Mobile $20 per month rather than the $45 AT&T wants.

I listen mostly to the same things, but I am travelling a bit, so I would try to rip my 8 eps of Robin Hood to the iPhone for watching on the plane.

The GPS is nice, I’ll admit, but the extra cost per month isn’t worth it (to me) for only a doubling of speed. EDGE is good enough for me at this point and I find most of the mobile versions of the sites I visit are quite good enough.

hopefully, someone at work will indulge me at a very low price.
