Monster.com Users: Change Passwords

It appears as though there was another successful attack against Monster.com resulting in the theft of credentials for an “unspecified” number of users. Monster isn’t saying if this attack is as successful as the trojan horse attack of a couple of years ago, but Monster is quietly suggesting that users change their passwords and watch [...]

The Palm Pre- Can It Save Two Companies?

Palm introduced it’s new hotness today, the Pre. Despite the lame name, this is one hot phone.
For years (literally) we have been hearing about Palm’s new Operating System. The version used on its current handhelds dates to the last century (again, literally) and they have been bolting updates to the old framework. This is a [...]

Apple Just Caved

Apple finally caved on the $.99/song pricing in iTunes. According to Engadget’s coverage of the MacWorld 2009 Keynote Address, Apple is instituting three tiered pricing: $.69, $.99  and $1.29. Why? So the labels will drop the copy protection from their files (which has been shown repeatedly not to work).
I’ll bet finding $.69 songs will prove [...]

One Week with an iPhone

I’ve had my iPhone jailbroken and used for the past week or so. There’s not a lot to be said about the device. Physically, it’s a gorgeous phone. That really shouldn’t surprise anyone given Apple’s focus on beauty. The screen is a magnitude of 1,000 better than either my T-Mobile Dash or the Blackberry Pearl. [...]

Apple Keynote Today

The tech world is abuzz as Steve Jobs takes the stage this morning and announces to the world… well, we’re not sure but the new high-speed iPhone is sure to be on the list. It seems like a great opportunity for me to pick up the first generation phone cheaply, which will receive the update I [...]

With our new laptop and wireless router, my wife and I decided it was time to move our DSL modem off of the floor and onto the desk with the router. Unfortunately, our AT&T issue line from the phone jack to the modem was justthisshort of making the mark. So, I bought a 25ft CAT-5 [...]

The NY Times BITS blog has an interesting post today for anyone that subscribes to Charter Communications Internet services. They will begin spying on you to serve you ads based upon what you browse. But it’s good for you!
The five-paragraph letter positioned the monitoring program as an “an enhanced online experience that is more customized [...]

My Shiny New Macbook

I promised a post on my thoughts about our MacBook, but the last few weeks have been a blur so I’m just now getting around to it.
My first impression is that I’m amazed that everything just works. It’s part of having the hardware and software built to work together from the beginning. Apple doesn’t have [...]

It’s Just Another Tuesday

Today is the second Tuesday of the month and for the first time in a long time I don’t care. Why? Because I purchased a Macbook a couple of weeks ago.
What does one have to do with the other? The second Tuesday of the month is Patch Tuesday, the day when Microsoft releases its monthly [...]

Amazon Launches Kindle Reader

Today, Amazon.com released the new Kindle eBook Reader. While anyone that reads tech blogs knew it was coming, it’s still an exciting announcement. The reader uses the same eInk technology that powers the Sony ebook reader, which basically consists of little balls that have a black side and a white side. Magnets inside the machine [...]
